This was a powerful, uplifting program which combined our talented younger generation with Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award winning entertainers, as well as dedicated educators, that awakened and celebrated the unrealized potential of at-risk youth, through this one-of-a-kind, mass-mentoring event.

We created a measurably successful program, designed to redirect youth away from society's pitfalls to build a successful life. THANKS To the SPECIAL Families of: EMMETT TILL, TRAYVON MARTIN and their Attorneys, SEAN BELL, The 3 CIVIL RIGHT'S WORKERS, JAM MASTER JAY of RUN-DMC, the CENTRAL PARK 5 AND MORE.

This evening honored the Multicultural legacies of great people that will live forever in history including:

EMMETT TILL

Lovingly called "Bo-bo", Emmett was only 14-years old on that day in 1955 when this “Sacrificial Lamb's” passing helped spark our Civil / Human Right's Movement. This was a pivotal moment in our history because of the global awareness it initiated.

TRAYVON MARTIN

We pay tribute to our little brother Trayvon Martin. We hope that his family heals with the embrace of many like-minded families who wish them the best. His smile will forever live in our hearts.

JAM MASTER JAY

Jason Mizell was the founder of the color barrier shattering & ground-breaking Grammy Award winning group RUN-DMC.
Now inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame , Jay's passing resonated globally, due to his years of having united both Black & White fans. He was known as an iconic artist and a gentle, beloved family man. His music lives on for future generations.

SEAN BELL

Sean Elijah Bell was only nine years older than Emmett; a 23-year-old father of two preparing for his 2006 wedding day in New York, when his life was abruptly ended through a twist of fate, turning him into what is now notoriously known as the “50-Shots” victim. People were instantly reminded of Emmett when this occurred, and we will never forget Sean.

Program Highlights…

REMEMBERING SOUL TRAIN

The classic show that started it all! Soul Train showcased and launched the careers of numerous Black & White performers, and is an historical staple in music history. Many of today's top musicians have Soul Train to thank for their initial exposure to a predominantly African American audience like David Bowie and Elton John, to known entertainers like James Brown, the Jackson 5, Tina Marie, Rosie Perez and more to countless rappers and 'edutainers' like RUN-DMC. Others too got their exposure or reoccurring visits to this ground-breaking show, and no one will forget the sparked known around the world as the 'Soul Train Line.'

The Soul Train tribute for this event will include music by the legendary 'hardest working man in show business' James Brown, Michael Jackson, and so much more, with dancing performed by talented youth combined with the legendary Mighty Zulu Kings ignited by world renowned musician and activist Afrika Bambaataa, widely known as the "Godfather" of Hip Hop Culture. In tribute to Soul Train's creator Don Cornelius, "We wish you Love Peace and Sooooouuuuul"!

TRIBUTE TO CELIA CRUZ

iAZUCAR! Celia Cruz our Afro-Cuban, globally known as the "Queen of Salsa Music." Often performing with Puente, they made magic together and brought out some of the best in Latin music. Africans, Americans and a world of other cultures were moved by her passion. She was indeed as big a star as Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley or Whitney Houston, garnering numerous awards!

TRIBUTE TO TITO PUENTE

Tito Puente was hailed as “the King of the Timbales of Salsa music.” A proud Puerto Rican who transcended genres, Tito and his bands were everything music should be; passionate, melodic and moving!
His music will live on forever!

A tribute to Celia's song entitled “Quimbada” was performed by the Executive Director of Learn My History, Ronnique featuring 10-year old Javier Fernandez!
